History of the Business

60 years ago, Stan and Millie Potter had a vision, one of sharing their knowledge of gardening and landscaping with the home owners settling in the rapidly growing west side of Kingston.

Their first garden centre was on Gardiners Road in 1963, and after some time on the corner of Bath and Days Roads, they finally settled into the current location of Potter’s Nurseries on Golden Mile Road, now for over 40 years.

The business was then passed on to their son Kent Potter, who has been involved with the nursery for many years. The family continued to be involved in the business, with Kent’s son Brandon running the construction part of the business and Kent’s daughter, Dana, managing the retail side of the nursery.

In the spring of 2022, Potter’s Nurseries merged with St. Lawrence Pools, a long time neighbour of 50+ years. The natural synergy between the two businesses brings a fresh vision and exciting opportunities for their landscaping clients throughout Eastern Ontario; becoming your one-stop-shop for all your outdoor needs.

We are thrilled that Kent will continue as a Consultant and Dana will carry on as the Nursery Retail Manager, both providing their indispensable wisdom and experience. They are joined by a dynamic team of Nursery staff, including an amazing Landscape Design team who will work with you to bring your dreams to life in Potter’s Nurseries new Landscape Design Studio.
